Stance: Slightly open stance with knees bent heavily and hands held at head level close to his body. Closes stance and uses a toe turn trigger.

Approach: Aggressive hitter who has an improving eye at the plate. Has solid pitch recognition, and is capable of hitting off-speed well. Will chase down and out of the zone, but has improved his ability to lay off that pitch. Still struggles at times with his strike zone awareness. Strikes out quite a bit but also draws a fair number of walks. Would like to see him draw more walks if he is hitting in the middle of the order. Likes the ball down and in.

Hitting Ability: Line drive swing that generates great back spin and loft. Swing can get a bit long, but it stays in the strike zone a long time and he covers the entire plate well. Needs to do a better job or using the entire field. Capable of hitting for both average and power. Should hit around .300 annually, but does have a history of going through cold streaks that can last for long periods of time. Hits righties better than lefties.

Power: Above average power, mainly to the pull field. Capable of hitting around 25 homeruns annually. Power does not play in all ballparks. Generates a lot of back spin with his swing and hits the ball very high in the air, occasionally causing his homeruns to just get over the wall.

Running: Above average runner, who hustles hard and has a desire to steal bases. Capable of taking a base at any time, always a threat to steal. Has the ability to steal 20 bags a year, but his spot in the order forces him to limit his attempts. Should be able to steal 10-15 bases. Doesn’t have the greatest base running ability, but his speed and hustle help.

Fielding: Gold glove caliber defender at second base. Has soft hands and quick transition. Moves well around the bag, and turns double plays well. Above average range in all directions. Plus arm strength and accuracy. Uses quickness and speed very well in the field. Has the arm strength to play third base if a move was necessary, but he fits best at second.

Physical Description: Compact athletic build, with good muscle distribution and solid muscle definition. Has powerful lower body with strong shoulders. A downward slopping chest. No need to add or subtract weight and no concern over adding bad weight.

Projection: All-star caliber second baseman, who is above average on both sides of the ball. A five tool player who can hit anywhere in the order.
